Give Blood Give Life
Last saturday, I donated my blood for the first time. And now, i am officially a blood donor =)
Many people think that giving blood is a very hard and painful process. As quoted by my good friend "You might die because of giving too much blood!" (Koh Thye Leng, 2008)
But honestly, it really isn't that bad. I admit at the beginning it was a little uncomfortable, but it's only for a shortwhile. But really what is a little pain? When you know you are saving 3 lives? And there are benefits too. In an unfortuanate event, if a blood donor meets with an accident, or is in need of blood, he/she is given the priority if there is a shortage of blood in the hospital.
And it is actually healthy to give your blood too, research has shown that the process of regenerating your blood is actually good for your body. Don't worry you won't die giving your blood!
Someone once said, "Life is in the blood". Everytime you give your blood to someone who needs it, you are actually giving that person another hope and chance to live again.

Luke 22:19-20 (NKJV)

19 And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is My body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” 20 Likewise He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood, which is shed for you.

-Yesterday we took the risk. Today its a dream. Tomorrow its reality =)

What do you have in your hands?
This is the continuation of the previou post, so I strongly advise you to read that first before reading this =)
We all know that David faced his Giant, Goliath. And at one point or another we too, will come face to face with our's. However, it is crucial for you to understand that, you must first be equipped before going into this battle.
It is true, we must all face our problems, difficulties and challenges one day. And have enough faith to overcome it. However, no one should ever go to a battle unprepared, empty-handed. It is self-deception, if anyone thinks coming against Goliath is going to be easy. Over confidence is the sure-est way to sabotage oneself. That's why it's important to always keep yourself in check. Am i ready? What's the plan? Do i have what i need?
I'm sure David understood that. He wasn't slack with his prep work. And neither did he allow his emotions to over-rule his actions and behaviour. He had full knowledge of who he was dealing with and what he was up against.
But most importanty he did not look at what he did not have (e.g. size), but instead he identified what he had. See, that was the secret, many times people procrastinate becaus they think they dont have what it takes to solve the problem. Instead of looking at what they had! David had his 5 stones and a sling. He did not despise what he had in his hands. Moses had a rod, that he used to tend the sheeps, but when he used it, it parted the red sea. 5 loaves and 2 fish was a boy's lunch, it fed a multitude of 5000.
What do you have in your hands? Sometimes, its not about having what you want, but its wanting what you have.
2 Cor 4:7-10
7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us. 8 We are hard-pressed on every side, yet not crushed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9 persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed— 10 always carrying about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus also may be manifested in our body.
-you're always there =)

Facing Goliath

When there's a BIG problem in our lives, the typical response people turn to these days is to run away or to avoid it. I'm sure we will all agree on that. I mean who would want to go on a battle when chances are, they are up against something HUGE, GIGANTIC, POWERFUL, and better still, when they seem to be small, tiny, and weak?
The "wise" person will say, "Just ignore it. You can't beat it! You are too weak!"

And yes, the common way many woul deal with this is to play hide and seek. Avoiding and hiding from it all their lives, not realising that the only way to get that problem, situation or setback out of their lives is to FACE it.

At least, I know one man did. His name was David. At the tender age of 16, David was a short, tiny, scrawny young boy. So "insignificant" that even his father refused to acknoledge him as his own son. To make matters worse, all his other brothers were tall and muscular and were in the military, serving their country. David? Oh he was just a shepherd boy. Tending the sheeps, doing chores in the house, in simpler terms all the odd jobs that was less "popular".

At that time, their nation was at war. And there was ongoing rage and battle everyday. The opposing enemy (a.k.a. Philistines) came not only in BIG numbers, but they had a BIG, HUMONGOUS, GIANT general known as Goliath. He was so huge, that even David's brothers, who were supposed brave young men were shaken, and intimidated by him. All that faced Goliath had 2 outcome, either they run, or they die a horrible tradgedic death. Many chose the 1st.
When David heard of this, he was upset. He understood that this giant was inflicting too much damage, and terrorising not only his life, but his family's, and nation's. So he did something that no one dared to do. He wanted to face that Giant, Golith.

How was the response? Yup you guessed it. Everyone thought he was insane! Lunatic! A boy against a GIANT?! It's a stupid thing to do! Some mocked at him, many laughed at him, I would even picture people throwing stones at him.

Did that stop him?! No. Instead he picked up those stones. And went towards the battleground. As he approached the zone of warfare, without an armour, sword, or weapon. He saw his countrymen fleeing, screaming, "RUN! THE GIANT IS HERE!"

Did that stop him? No. At this point, just with his 5 stones he RAN towards Goliath. And there, stood the massive Giant. David stood firm on the ground. Goliath was hysterical, "YOU think you can defeat me, you tiny little thing?!" ALL the enemy burst out in laughter at the fact that a small boy was trying to beat their undefeatable Champion. David was alone. One boy.

Did that stop him? Nope. He knew he had nothing to fear, and so there and then he took out one of his stones. And threw it, right towards the forehead of Goliath. He threw it with such precison and power that it sunk in so deep into the skull, that at an instant Goliath fell to the earth and died. "BOOM!"
David made history.

Many of us heard this story since our childhood days. But see this is not peterpan. It isn't ust a fairytale. Historians will tell you that. David, who later became king was a real man just like any of us, who lived in the face of this earth.
They will also tell you he was significantly known to be a short man. Amazing isn't it? But David taught us an importantly lesson. There is only one way to solve our problems. It isn't to run away from it, but instead run towards it! Face it! And overcome it!

2 Cor 12:9 (NKJV)
9 And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
